“Doing Nothing All The Way” “For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.” Hebrews 4:10 The bible teaches that on the 7th day God rested from all His labor and He has called man to enter His rest. For the church Sunday has always been the day since Pentecost that man set aside to focus solely on the Lord. In the United States because we were a nation founded on the belief in God, and in the bible, Jesus Christ as God’s one and only son Sunday was set aside as the day of rest… everything shut down on Sunday’s, and all the stores were closed. That was until 7-11 opened their doors. 7-11 stood for open at 7:00 a.m. and closed at 11:00 p.m. and at first everyone scoffed at the idea of a store being open past dark. Most thought it almost laughable that a store would remain open after dark. Who in their right mind would need to go to the store after dark? Fast forward 35 years or so and now and you might think that men love the darkness rather than the light. Stores and restaurants are staying open longer and longer. I recently spoke out of town and was staying in a hotel across the street from one of the largest malls in southern California. It seemed like the later the night went the more people came to the mall. It was amazing that at the old dinner hour of 5:00 p.m. there is hardly a person eating. You can almost still get the lunch price at 5:00 p.m. in these restaurants. Times have changed but God hasn’t. When was the last time you focused on doing nothing and doing it all the way? Let me encourage you, loved one, to take an entire day and rest. I mean just what I am saying. Try from sun up to sun down, just one whole day to do nothing and do nothing all the way! Many feel guilty doing nothing so let me help you here. Don’t sit in a chair staring at the clock. Try reading your bible, pray, and maybe just hang out with some friends and talk about the Lord, that kind of nothing… Ha! Seriously though, rest today, friend, if you can, relax for the day and thank the Lord He has called us to enter His rest and made a way possible that we could through the precious blood of Jesus. Don’t forget if you are going to be sharp you have to take time to stop and sharpen the saw. You are the tool God uses to do His work, friend, and He wants us available for Him. God desires us to be sharp for the work He has for us, and it’s hard to stay sharp when we never stop and sharpen the saw. If it has been awhile since you took time to rest determine to set aside some time this day. After all, isn’t Sunday still considered the Lord’s Day by many and I know that God wants nothing more than to spend it with you. “Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also will rest in hope” Psalm 16:9 I LOVE YOU! |
